Revolut Secures MiCA License in Cyprus, Paving Way for Crypto Expansion
Neobank Revolut has obtained a Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) license from Cyprus's financial regulator, CySEC. The approval grants Revolut access to all 30 European Economic Area markets under MiCA's passporting provision, though local regulatory hurdles may remain.
The license positions Revolut to potentially launch its own stablecoin, with sources indicating prior discussions with crypto-native firms. The company also announced plans for 1:1 stablecoin-to-USD conversions without spreads, signaling deeper crypto integration.
Costas Michael, Revolut's Digital Assets Europe CEO, called the license a milestone reflecting regulatory confidence in their crypto compliance. The MOVE comes as traditional fintech firms increasingly bridge the gap between conventional finance and digital assets.
